02/24/1987-PZ-Minutes-Regular( ( I ' MINUTES: MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: OTHERS PRESENT: Planning & Zoning Commission February 24, 1987 Chairperson Billye Hollingsworth, Tommy Kincaid, Russell Madden, Eileen Brittian, Charles Kesseler & Fred Yeatts Georgia Royal Rose Shuffield, Steve Shutt, Carolyn Adkins, Jerry Jenkins, Prentice Preston, Benny Johnson, Mr. & Mrs. W.R. Morrow, Danny McDaniel, and Doyle Tucker 1. Billye Hollingsworth called the meeting to order. 2. Conducted Public Hearing on Zoning Petition Zl-87 for H. Edward Downs who is requesting a change in zoning from R-1 (Single Family) to R-3 (Multi-Family), LR (Local Retail), and LI (Light Industry). Mr. Downs presented his zoning petition; however, the people who were present showed opposition to his petition. The main problem that they felt was an issue was the traffic flow through that part of town. Some of these families' driveways face Cowling Road. The petition was requesting (3), multi-family which included apartments and the other tracts were designated for businesses. Mr. Benny Johnson showed due to the fact that putting any kind of a business in that area would increase traffic flow. Mr. & Mrs. Morrow felt like this would just create a problem. Some felt like their homes would decrease in value. P & z turned down the zoning request. Opposition was made by a motion by Tommy Kincaid. Seconded by Fred Yeatts. Motion carried. 3.
