Re: Economic Development Director Job Description
Enclosed is the Job Description that we have established for this position.
We have included the educational requirements,job functions, physical requirements
for this position. This job description is incorporated with the rest of our job
descriptions to specify that the City of Sanger is an At Will Employer. The
application will also indicate this clause.
If changes or recommendations need to be made we can expand the job description
to include those changes.

Definition: Under administrative direction, is responsible for the short-term and long-term planning, implementing
and marketing for the City of Sanger; performs related duties as required.
Essential Job Functions:
•
Analyzes and develops long term economic and marketing strategies for businesses and hotel development and relations;
develops strategies for domestic and international trade, relations and expansion efforts.
Creates media, literature, and materials for both promotional and informational purposes promoting economic development
and tourism.
Establishes liaisons with other agencies to promote public-public or public-private partnerships; develops joint advertising
and promotional programs with hotels/motels, tourism and convention interests that will promote the City.

• Participates in community planning and development that may involve elected officials or volunteers
• Attends regularly scheduled and special meeting of the City Council, attends conferences, committee and staff meetings,
assists City Manager at such meetings, makes recommendations on subjects under discussion.
• Keeps abreast of current and projected developments in the area of economic development.
• Develops strategic plans for major City operations and programs affecting the whole organization.
• Acts as a liaison with outside agencies, universities, state departments of commerce and Chamber of Commerce.
• . Coordinates activities with those of the Chamber of Commerce to promote the City's economic development.
• Reports at least monthly to Board on challenges and accomplishments.
• Develops new prospects for business in Sanger.
Maintains timely communications with prospects and coordinates all prospect visits.
• Serves as a primary public relations contact for the Economic Development Boards.
• Maintains relationships and networks with local, regional and statewide agencies and organizations related to economic
development.
• Stays informed of all issues related to economic development in general, and 4A/4B corporations in particular, and reports
these issues to the City Council and Board members.
• -Ability to get along with customers and co-workers.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Regular and punctual attendance.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Master' Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics, Urban Planning or Marketing with three or
more years of progressively responsible experience.
Or
• A combination of training and experience in this area which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• 4-5 years of progressively responsible experience in Economic Development..
Conditions of Employment:
• Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License prior to employment
Must pass a drug test.
Preferences:
• Certified Economic Director
• Master's Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics, Urban Planning or Marketing
• Bilingual in Spanish and English
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
