Subject Resume / Economic Development Coordinator
Attn: Human Resources Department,
I received word about the opening for the Economic Development Coordinator position and would like
to send you my resume as I am looking at expanding my career. I have been employed with the
Whitesboro Area Chamber of Commerce since 1992 and have also served as the Director for the
Whitesboro Economic Development Corporation (4B) and the Whitesboro Industrial Development
Corporation ( 4) since 1998. Whitesboro is funded by both the 4A and 4B Economic Development laws
and the two corporations contract their services to the Chamber of Commerce for administrative
purposes.
My experience with the 4A and 4B Corporations provide me with a keen understanding of how one can
maximize the opportunities given to promote business in the area. My key experiences that make this
position a good fit include:
Plaµning
A quality strategic plan for marketing is essential for maximizing the investments made in promotion,
product development, distribution and pricing strategies. My experience in strategic planning provides me
a greater understanding of how research is connected to the decision making process. Also working with
board volunteers to adapt a correct plan for the community is a strong asset of mine. I am very qualified
with volunteer base boards and committees because of my extensive work with the Chamber of
Commerce.
Promotions
'IV and print advertising, point of sale promotions, trade shows, web and printed materials are all areas
that I have been involved, working with internal staff and external agencies in developing. My promotion
· plan experience has included analyzing research to determine advertising design, placement, target market
· selection, target audience selection and brand implementation. My negotiation skills also include media
partnership and PSA announcements that are cost free. Writing and designing effective promotional
pieces to recruit leadership participants, enticing tourists to visit and luring business to relocate to our
area, is all part of my current responsibilities.
Relationships
Allowing opportunities for business leaders to work closely together, such as the City, the School District
and the Chamber of Commerce, is one of my strong traits. My strong ability to interface with diverse
entities has assisted me in delivering award-winning results for my employer. This skill is critical in any
organization, community or business.
I look forward to the opportunity to discuss further with you my qualifications for this position. Please
contact me at 903.647.8990 to arrange an interview.
Thank you for your consideration of this application. Together, we can accomplish great things!

RE: Position Announcement for Economic Development Coordinator for the City of
Sanger
I am responding to the above referenced position announcement found on the Texas
Municipal League Website.
I believe my background, which includes over 12 years of progressively responsible
experience in local economic development and 3 years in local land use planning, would
provide a good foundation for successfully accomplishing the requirements described.
Highlights of my experience include:
•
•
•
•
•
•
Extensive experience in prospect response, handling, and follow-through after
decision;
Existing business retention efforts;
Experience coordinating industrial building and property development;
Working toward achieving a balanced economy in a high-growth environment;
Track record of collaborative and productive relationships with local and state
government, academia, utilities, and private entities; and
Completion of the Economic Development Institute and our local Chamber of
Commerce leadership institute.
I am a native of Fort Worth and am enthusiastic about returning to Texas after many
years of living out of state. We have already sold our home here and are prepared to
move _at our own expense. The Director of our Office of Economic Development and my
County Administrator have both offered to serve as references. I will be in Corpus for the
Industrial Asset Management Council conference this Saturday through Wednesday the
12th and could come up if we should talk in person on the 13th. It would be a pleasure to
discuss the position with you and how it relates to Sanger's future.
Sincerely,
Sandra Barner
