Muzaib speaks briefly about project.
Open Public Hearing: 7:03 PM
Thomas Muir stands to speak about the project. First, I am a property owner adjacent to the
property. Obviously I am in favor of the proposed SUP. I dont believe we have gotten any negative
feed back on this project. Secondly I am a member of First Baptist Church and involved in the
process where it started as a mobile food pantry. This is an extension of that ministry of the Church.
Thirdly I have been involved in the $300,000.00 grant that was in the paper. It was given to the
School District. First Refuge Ministries, First Baptist Church, and The City of Sanger actually are
working together with the grant from Texas Health Resources. The money will flow through the
schools and will go to the behavioral health, food instabilities, and help put food into the schools and
the ministries. It has been a collaborative effort. There will be counseling.
Paul Juarez stands to speak. It started at the First Baptist Church and they have about 12 partners.
They provide free food, free medical, free counseling, and free dental. Our first staff member
Christy Daniel is here with us today. Denton County life expectancy is 80.8. Lewisville and
Bridgeport were low at 78.8. Sanger is by far the lowest at 74.8.
Thomas Muir brings up their location in Denton and asks if it has brought up any problems in the
area they are located.
Paul reassures that the place is well maintained and kept up with well.
Grant Bowles Pastor at First Baptist stands to speak. When he first saw a First Refuge I
immediately thought of this house. It is almost the same scenario as this house. The one in Denton is
in more tight packed residential area than in Sanger.
Thomas Muir speaks again. In the capacity as a Mayor we have been looking for sometime how to
get people transported to services like this. A lot of these services are out of Denton and
transportation is hard to get them to these places. He stated there is another member wanting to
speak.
Richard Muir stands to speak. When Paul first came to our church he spoke to the men's leadership
team. He says he was able to see their food pantry and dental equipment. I was one of four people
chosen by the Church. We met with Paul 4 or 5 occasions. He is requesting that the SUP be
changed from 12 months to 36 months. He is requesting a longer use term.
Jackie Turner asks if this was going to be free or low cost for the entire community.
Grant Bowles says yes but they will not have the Dental for a while because of the cost.
Paul Juarez the way that we do it. All services are all free. With the food anyone and everyone can
come. With Medical and Counseling will go off of your income. A family that is less than
$25,000.00.
Jack Turner asks if they will accept donations.
Paul answers yes but there are guidelines because of food. They have to check dates, and only
