MINUTES: Parks and Recreation Board
November 8, 2016

1. Meeting called to order at 7:09PM.
2. Pledge.
3. Citizen’s Input.
No citizens in attendance.
4. Consider minutes of the meeting of October 11, 2016.
Minutes approved unanimously after a motion to approve by Carrie Bilyeu and a second by Jackie
Turner.
5. Fishing Derby to be Held on October 22, 2016.
We had 39 registered participants (versus 30 at the May event).
Suggested we keep to heavily posting on Facebook and doing the “Live” Facebook feed.
6. Halloween Trick or Trot 5K and Monster Fun Run to be Held on October 29, 2016.
There were 146 paid participants (10 were walk ups). The breakdown: 79 for the One Mile Monster
Fun Run and 67 for the Trick or Trot 5K.
There were over 60 entries into the costume contest.
Board suggested including the race route on marketing materials prior to the run due to several questions
about the route.
Jackie Turner asked about bringing in concessions/food trucks for future events and it was discussed
with pros and cons to both.
Carrie Bilyeu suggested adding costume contest winners for families, groups, and couples costumes.
7. Christmas Parade to be Held on December 10, 2016.
Please put date on calendar because we will need all board members to staff.
Decorating of downtown to begin at 5:00pm.
The Parks & Recreation Department sent out a letter to businesses asking for participation after the
parade with confirmation from the Library (reading of Twas the Night Before Christmas), Grace Bible
(Hot Chocolate, Apple Cider, Coffee, and Hot Dogs), and the Lions Club (exact participation not yet
determined).
There will be no train this year.
8. Keep Sanger Beautiful / Keep Texas Beautiful / Keep America Beautiful.
Jackie Turner still going through Affiliates checklist to get Keep Sanger Beautiful back in good standing.
This will continue through the next few months.
9. Open Discussion of Future Projects.
Jim Berman had a positive meeting with the 4B Board.

No December meeting.
