MINUTES: Parks and Recreation Board
March 14, 2017

1. Meeting called to order.
2. Pledge.
3. Citizen’s Input.
• No citizens in attendance.
4. Consider minutes of the meeting of March 14, 2017.
• Minutes approved unanimously after a motion to approve by Alicia Metcalf and a second by Carrie Bilyeu.
5. Easter Egg Hunts to be Held on Both April 14, 2017 and April 15, 2017.
• A brief description of what to expect on the Teen Easter Egg was discussed and included that the Board
would stuff eggs with finger lights and candy, hide them, and help monitor kids while the DJ was playing.
• We advised that the event on April 15th would be the same as previous years.
• The Board was asked to be at both events at 7. 7pm for the Easter Egg hunt on the 14th of April and 7am
for the hunt on the 15th of April.
6. Coffee Run to be Held on April 29, 2017.
• Mr. Berman told the Board that this run would be very similar to runs of the past and that the Board was
needed to help with registration and participant questions.
• It was agreed by all to meet at 7:45am to open registration at 8:00am for the 9:00am run.
7. Fishing Derby to be Held on May 20, 2017.
• Board was notified this was placed on agenda to remind them of the date.
8. Keep Sanger Beautiful / Keep Texas Beautiful / Keep America Beautiful.
• Jackie Turner gave the exciting news that the City of Sanger was awarded the Dr. Pepper Snapple Public
Space Recycling Bin Grant. This grant will give the City of Sanger recycle bins that we will place at
various locations at Porter Park. The city will track the amount of recyclables placed into the bins and
report back to Keep American Beautiful at the pre-determined times.
• It was decided that the Press Release and announcement of the grant will be done during our movie in the
park event on June 9, 2017.
• Ms. Turner also updated the board on all things Keep Sanger Beautiful.
9. Open Discussion of Future Projects.
• Jennifer Shumate advised the Board that the Parks & Recreation Department will be participating with the
Sanger Area Chamber of Commerce by having a booth for a game at their annual Spring Fling and Movie
in the Park. The Board asked that anyone able to attend to please come out and help.
10. Future Agenda Items.
• Movie in the Park Event to be Held on June 9, 2017.
• Freedom Fest to be Held on July 1, 2017.
