MINUTES: Parks and Recreation Board
June 13, 2017

1. Meeting called to order.
2. Pledge.
3. Citizen’s Input.
• No citizens in attendance.
4. Consider minutes of the meeting of June 13, 2017.
• Minutes approved unanimously after a motion to approve by Carrie Bilyeu and a second by Alicia Metcalf.
5. Follow Up on Fishing Derby Held on May 20, 2017.
• There were 15 children who participated and fun was had by all.
• However, as discussed in the past and due to lower attendance, the spring fishing derby will be canceled
going forward.
6. Movie in the Park to be Held on June 9, 2017.
• This is actually a follow up to the event that was held over the weekend.
• The Parks Department estimates 200+ people were in attendance and positive feedback was received from
children and adults.
• Another movie is being schedule for July 22, 2017.
7. Freedom Fest to be Held on July 1, 2017.
• Freedom Fest is scheduled for July 1, 2017 and the Parks Department is asking for all Board Members to
be in attendance as we are anticipating this to be our biggest event of the year.
• Events will include In-N-Out Burgers that will be donated and they will be serving 400 people,
Watermelon, a water slide bounce house, an obstacle course bounce house, kickball, sa nd volleyball,
horseshoes, corn hole, basketball, chalk on the court, the splash pad will be on, the community center will
be open, music, bike parade, and more.
• Signs will be placed around town the Monday before the event stating the event is “This Saturday” and
heavy Facebook marketing and ads in the newspaper have begun.
• The Parks Department is hoping for 400 people to be in attendance.
8. Keep Sanger Beautiful / Keep Texas Beautiful / Keep America Beautiful.
• Ms. Turner advised that the application for the Lowe’s Grant that was discussed in a previous meeting has
been canceled at this time but we will be able to apply in the future.
• It is a quiet time for all the Keep Beautiful boards.
• The recycle bins should arrive in late June.
9. Open Discussion of Future Projects.
• July 22, 2017 movie to be held at Porter Park.
• A potential Halloween event for teen age kids was also discussed.
• And the board agreed to no July meeting.
10. Future Agenda Items.
• Sellabration
• Halloween Trick or Trot 5K and Monster Fun Run
• Potential Halloween Event for Teens (similar to the Teen Easter Egg Hunt)
