05/12/2014-Library Board-Minutes-Regular Sanger Library Board Meeting Monday, May 12, 2014 1. Suzanne Sears called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. 2. The meeting of the February 10, 2014 meeting were reviewed. Daniel made motion to approve minutes. Suzanne Sears seconded the motion. 3. Library Director’s Report st a. Hosted 1 homeschool group approx. 3 or 4 mothers, 6 or 7 children- resources shared with mothers. Library will provide space- will revisit b. Annual report- worked with finance director to get in c. Denton Co. questionnaire report- patrons in city/out of city th d. New event- Feb.20 Family Game Night- no attendance. Perhaps we should target a different age group. May do a board game night for younger/older teens e. Betsy took a Cataloging class in Aubrey- learned f. March 3- sprinkler broke, flood- quick response from city- cleaned up, got as many childrens books as possible out. Managed to save computers. Lost just over 800 (mainly childrens) books, managed to save about 100 more Opened the th annex with new hours- will reopen May 19 Addressed the problem with the sprinkler pipes. It was decided that shutting off soffet vents to let out cold air and installing wind turbines to push out hot air during summer. Making sure the crawlspace doesn’t get too cold. Travis Montgomery called in to do dirt extraction. Insurance did cover most of the repairs, could possibly get some money back. Dan’s Painting- gave the library some price breaks and did a nice job. g. Submitting a revised grant for Tocker Grant for furniture. They were not pleased with vendor quote attached to application. In light of flooding circumstances, they reconsidered after sending two reps to library. Revised plan and incorportated their recommendations. New vendor- Paula Lindstrom with xxxx. Will resubmit tomorrow, May 13. If it goes through, it could take 4-6 weeks to get furniture in, so looking at July. 5. Summer Reading Program a. Erika Kaufman, director; theme- “Science Rocks” faculty and staff from UNT- possibly one on forensics, talking to engineering school, “Fossil Bob” amateur paleontologist. b. “Professor Brainius”- June 23 at 10 a.m., Ronald McDonald c. Dr. Who Kick-off – June 7, Saturday 6 p.m. d. Discussed advertising the summer reading program- fliers, emailing schools to place story time in their newsletters e. No online registration for summer reading- site problems and encourage people to come in. f. Members discussed prizes for reading program- $25 gift cards to each age group, possibly Wal-Mart, Target or Best Buy 6. New Business- a. Discussion on revision of meeting room policy. Audrey will review the meeting room policy, research other small town libraries, and she will email revisions. b. Discussed limiting amount of DVD’s to be checked out at once– limit to one season per check-out, and cataloging DVD’s. c. Considering Overdrive Ebooks. Budget must be submitted this week. 7.
