ORDINANCE NO. 15 - 9 5
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANGER, TEXAS, REVISING THE
CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY BY AMENDING ANIMAL
CONTROL REGULATIONS TO DEFINE CATS AS USED IN THE CODE;
TO PROVIDE FOR THE REQUIRED REGISTRATION OF DOGS AND
CATS IN THE CITY; BY AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES TO
LIMIT THE NUMBER OF CATS AS WELL AS DOGS THAT CITIZEN
MAY KEEP; PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR VIOLATIONS; PROVIDING
FOR THE SEVERABILITY OF THIS ORDINANCE AND ANY
CONFLICTING PROVISIONS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
FOR THIS ORDINANCE.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF SANGER, TEXAS:
I. CODE OF ORDINANCES AMENDED
A. That the following definition shall be included in Chapter 2, Article 2.100:
Cat. An animal of the domesticated feline species.
B. That the a new Article 2.400 be added to Chapter 2 of the Code of Ordinances, said
article to read as follows:
"ARTICLE 2.400 DOG AND CAT REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
(a) The owner of dogs and cats over the age of four (4) months are hereby required to
make application to the animal control officer of the city for a registration permit. Such
applications are to contain information of the animal's description, date of immunization,
and name, address and telephone number of owner. Upon completion of the application,
proof of vaccination, and payment of the annual permit fee as established by the city
council, a metal tag will be issued to the owner to be attached to the collar around the
neck and body of the dog or cat.
(b) Lost or stolen registration tags may be replaced by payment of a fee as established
by the city council and presentation of the registration application. If a tag and
registration application are both lost or stolen, a new license must be purchased at the
regular fees.

(c) It shall be unlawful for any person to own, possess, keep or harbor a dog or cat
without a current registration issued by the city for said animal."
C. That Article 2.700 of Chapter 2 of the Code of Ordinances be revised to read as
follows:
"ARTICLE 2.700 LIMIT ON NUMBER OF DOGS
No person, family or resident shall harbor, keep or maintain more than three (3) adult
dogs or cats or combination thereof and/or one (1) litter of pups or kittens or combination
thereof on their premises, property or place of dwelling at any one time. The provisions
of this article shall not be applicable to legitimate kennels and breeder businesses."
II. PENALTY FOR VIOLATIONS
Any person, firm, or corporation who shall violate any of the provisions of this Ordinance
shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be fined in accordance with
the general penalty provision found in Chapter 1, Article 1.100, Section 1.106 of this
code.
III. SEVERABILITY OF ORDINANCE
If any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, clause, phrase, or word in this Ordinance,
or application thereof to any person or circumstances, is held invalid by a court of
competent jurisdiction, such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions
of the Ordinance, and the City Council of the City of Sanger hereby declares that it would
have passed such remaining portions of the Ordinance despite such invalidity.
IV. CONFLICTING PROVISIONS
Any and all Ordinances of the City of Sanger heretofore adopted which are in conflict
with this Ordinance are hereby expressly repealed insofar as the same are in conflict
therewith.
V. EFFECTIVE DATE
This Ordinance shall take effect immediately, from and after its passage and publication
of the caption, as the law in such cases provides.
