AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANGER,
DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS, AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES
ARTICLE 1.500 LOCAL GOVERNING BODY; PROVIDING FOR THE
APPEAL OF ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT; PROVIDING FOR A
SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANGER, DENTON
COUNTY, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The Code of Ordinances of the City of Sanger, Texas, be and the same is
hereby amended by amending Chapter 1, Article 1.500, "Local Governing Body" in part as
follows:
ARTICLE 1.500 LOCAL GOVERNING BODY
Sec. 1.501 Governing Body
(a) Governing_Body Established. The city council shall be the governing body of the city.
(b) Composition. The city council shall consist of a mayor and five (5) councilmembers, all of
whom shall be elected at large. Each councilmember shall occupy a position on the city council,
such position being numbered one (1) through five (5) consecutively.
(c) Mayor Pro-Tem. The city council shall elect one councilmember to serve as mayor pro-tem
for a term of one (1) year.
(d) Terrns of Office. The terms of the mayor and councilmembers shall be for two (2) years. The
mayor and council places two (2) and four (4) shall be elected in even numbered years, and council
places one (1), three (3) and five (5) shall be elected in odd numbered years.
(e) Compensation. The mayor and city council shall be compensated as stated in Section 3.03
of the Home Rule Charter.
Sec. 1.502 Meetings
(a) The city council shall hold at least two regular meetings each month and as many additional
meetings as it deems necessary to transact the business of the city.
(b) The regular meetings of the city council shall be held on the first and third Mondays of each
month in the city council chambers at city hall at 7:00 o'clock p.m., central time. If the date of a
regularly scheduled meeting falls on a holiday, the meeting will be held on the Tuesday following
the Monday holiday, and if the Tuesday is also a holiday, the meeting will be held on the next
available weekday as determined by the city council.
(c) Special meetings of the city council shall beheld on the call of the mayor or a majority of
city council members.
(d) The city council may, by a majority vote at a preceding meeting, cancel or reschedule any
regular meeting to another date in the event of the lack of a quorum or the lack of necessary
business to transact, or for any other reason the city council may determine,
(e) The City Manager may cancel or reschedule a meeting to another date in the event of a lack
of quorum or the lack of necessary business to transact after notifying the city council.
SECTION 2. All ordinances of the City of Sanger in conflict with the provisions of this
ordinance shall be, and the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3. Should any word, sentence, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase or
section of this ordinance or of the Code of Ordinances, as amended hereby, be adjudged or held to
be void or unconstitutional, the same shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of said
ordinance or the Code of Ordinances, as amended hereby, which shall remain in full force and
effect.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect immediately from and after its passage and
publication of the caption as required by law.
