(PRESENT: City Administrator Larry Keesler, City Secretary Rosalie Chavez, Lisa
Hardy, Janet McDaniel, Nel Armstrong
1. Mayor Coker Called the Meeting to ®rder. Councilman Kincaid led the invocation
which was followed by Councilman Frazier leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
2. Conduct a Public Hearing to Consider Application for a Texas Parks and Wildlife
Department Indoor Recreation Center.
Mayor Coker declared Public Hearing opened.
Mr. Keesler addressed this item and advised that the purpose of this Public Hearing
was to apply for a grant tot he Texas Parks and Wildlife through their Indoor
Recreation Program. Mr. Keesler indicated it is a matching fund grant and in order
to qualify for the grant the Public Hearing had to be held in order to submit the
application by the deadline which is the end of this week.
Mr. Keesler also indicated that the City does have a building which has been vacant
for almost two years. The city has not made any budget plans for renovations to the
building; however, there has been a $1,000.00 donation made to paint and try to
improve the building.
Janet McDaniel expressed the support of the Arts Council. She indicated the Arts
Council will volunteer to start a fund raising campaign.
Nel Armstrong addressed Council and expressed how delighted and pleased she was
that the City Council was pursuing this matter. Nel advised the building is a part
of Sanger's history and has been deteriorating fast.
Nel made a suggestion to Council that since the building does have Texas Historical
Maker that we needed to check with the Texas Historical Commission before any
renovations are made to see if they are within the guidelines of the Commission.
Another suggestion she indicates was trying to salvage the stained glass windows or
incorporate them into the building.
Discussed was other possibilities that the building could be used for if the City got
the grant. The uses for the building that Janet McDaniel indicated were Art
Exhibits, Recitals, Weddings or Wedding Receptions.
Discussed.
Mayor Coker declared Public Hearing Closed.
3. Consider and Possible Action to Adopt Resolution No. R05-97 for a Texas Parks and
Wildlife Department Indoor Recreation Center.
Motion was made by Councilman Frazier to Approve Resolution No. R05-97 for a
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department indoor Recreation Center. Seconded by
Councilman Kincaid.

Motion Carried unanimously.
Councilman James expressed that this was a good move by Council and as Nel had
indicated the building is a defmite part of the town's history. The City has more to
gain by applying than to lose by not applying. Councilman James also indicated that
if Council did not get the grant this year they could apply again next year.
