MEMORANDUM
TO: Members of City Council

SUBJ: Agenda -March 2, 1996
You will notice according to the schedule of interviews for Saturday, we will be
interviewing Alan Guard instead of Jody Butler. When I called Mr. Butler to arrange his
interview he told me he could not come Saturday. I told him I felt the Council wanted to make
a decision by Monday. We tried to work out another time. The second time I called him, he
asked me what salary we intended to offer, and I told him we had decided that the base pay
would range from $45,000 to $50,000. However, if we decided on an applicant that we felt we
just had to have, we might negotiate that price some. He told me he was making $52,200 now
and would not make a move without an increase. I told him I could not speak for the Council
and make him a promise that we would pay him more. He said to let him think about it and he
would call me back later. He did call later Tuesday evening and asked that his name be removed
from consideration. So I called Alan Guard and set up an appointment with him. The interviews
are scheduled as follows.
10:00 Larry Keesler
11:15 Alan Guard
1:00 Kyle McCain
I thought an hour and fifteen minutes might allow us time to give each one a short tour
of the city if necessary. Also, I am posting an action item in case we want to make a final
decision. However, I would like for us to do the final hiring on Monday night in a regular
session of the Council.
