The principal and Carolyn Harrison, the Business Information Processing teacher, team taught the class on this project. But the two adults actually were "facilitators," rather than teachers, Harrison said, because they let the students handle the entire project with very little input. "We left it up to them," Harrison said at the City Council meeting. "We wanted it to be their production, and we wanted them to know what it took to do a production such as this." The students worked on the project for 12 weeks, and they spent six weeks planning the video and writing the script, This meant many days of brainstorming ideas on what to include and what to leave out . When interviewed this week, the eight students involved agreed that it was a positive learning experience, but that it was not always easy. and the hardest parart was t warms learning to to film off campus, they agreed, work together. "Just trying to get along with each other" was tough, said sophomore Steven Dietz. 'We had a lot of fights, a lot of calling each other names," added senior Jennifer Rodgers. Senior Dustin Lyon, who was voted the director by the other class members, came up with a rule that helped: 'There is no I in 'team. The class was divided into groups, and each group had subjects to research for the statistics given in the video. Among the subjects that had to be looked into were schools, churches, transportation, houses, recreation, medical, restaurants, entertainment and communications The group chose Coach Jim Davis, a government and world geography teacher, as the narrator. Davis was the announcer at last year's Senior Presentation. and the students liked his voice. from an airplane best. Senior Daniel Beek liked filming Pilot Jim Glass of Sanger took Beck up in an open cockpit plane, allowing him to film the opening and closing aerial scenes of Lake Ray Roberts and other areas. Although Beck had never been in an airplaine, he was the only student who volunteered to film from the small planes Beck and Lyon 'spent their Spring Break filming scenes around the Dallas and Fort Worth area, including anSix Flags, Dallas-Fort Worth International Aire in Fort Worth. The students also spent Friday afternoons and Saturdays at the Advanced Technology Lab on the University of North Texas campus, learning how to film and edit and, in the end, editing the film for the finished product. Mark Mortensen, UNT faculty member who had helped the Sanger schools film other events, taught the students how to use the lab. For their six week's grades* the students evaluated each other, and Sanger School Board trustees and City Council members will be asked to evaluate the tape. The team members said they couldn't decide on whether to have a theme until the last minute, when they decided to use "Back to the Future, " complete with some of the theme from the movie of the same names Junior Sariah Heisey said the theme means that Sanger nmvirlPR a hnmetown atmosphere, but it is still progressing. s a friendly atmosphere, mainly," she? : said, "But at the same time , We've got' technology," added sophomore Madelaine Garza.
