LIBRARY MEETING ROOM -501 BOLIVAR ST.
NOTES
In attendance: Beth Avery, Amanda Ford, Sharon Knappe Kandyce LaFleur, Judith
Rodgers, Audrey Tolle
1. The meeting was called to order at 6:39 pm.
2. Minutes from the February 19th meeting were read. They were accepted with
corrections.
3. Director's report is attached. Highlights included:
1. Spring programs have been successful, especially Oba William King and
Dr. Seuss party.
2. The April poetry month included a spine poetry contest and a poetry tree.
3. Vita assisted with 84 tax returns this year, which is up from last year.
4. There has been two changes in the North Texas Library Consortium:
North Richland Hills library has left, Westworth Village Library closed and
the collection was disbursed. We were able to obtain many books from
them.
5. A Pre-K night was held at Butterfield in conjunction with the grant we
have with the schools. Only 3 people attended.
6. Unattended children policy. Children under 8 must be directly supervised
by and adult. The age limit for unsupervised children in Texas is vague, it
seems to be determined on a case-by-case basis. The Director will talk
with the librarians at the Denton North Branch about their policy since they
are adjacent to Strickland Middle School and presumably have many of the
same issues we are having. She will have a policy for the next meeting.
7. The Library sign on the building needs to be more visible. Many people
go by the building without realizing it's the library. Board members are
requested to look at signage on other buildings to see how our current
lettering could be made more visible.
8. The revised Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the school
district on the Pre-K grand will go before the city council in June.
9. The summer calendar was reviewed. An environmental program with Texas
Parks and wildlife will most likely be added.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:29 pm. Amanda moved and Sharon
seconded.
The next board meeting will be August 20 , 2019.
